…that’s exactly what still separates the iPhone from all the Android phones. It’s the little things. The things that are almost too small for you to even notice, but which make the experience subtly better.

AT&T’s promise of “more bars” appears to relate to the number of bars people have to visit after using your service!
• Lance Ulanoff, Yahoo Tech - referencing AT&T’s “More Bars” advertising, and the actually terrible reception…

Concept of the first Melbourne (city) Apple store, to be positioned in the Emporium building.

Some ‘restorationists’ are all fired up since a 1930’s-era building is being torn down - but in truth, it’s merely being revamped. Look at the original Emporium façade on the right.

A bit like how the London Regent Street store actually looks more classy, elegant, and “of times past” with the Apple store in it.

This colour photograph shows burnt trees in a forest near Ejulve, Spain, in late July. Fires have ravaged the Spanish Mediterranean region over the recent past.

Nature is amazing - the way it can give and wreak havoc.

Trailer for the upcoming film Moon staring Sam Rockwell and Kevin Spacey. Directed by Duncan Jones (David Bowie’s son).

Looks like an interesting twist on the science-fiction film genre; not about aliens; more like alienation and bare isolation.

Great packaging design, especially that Twitter-fail-whale-esque green delphinidae on the front there.

Also available in octopus…

Jailbreaking

posted 2 years ago
Apple:

As designed by Apple, the iPhone OS ensures that the iPhone and iPod touch operate reliably. Some customers have not understood the risks of installing software that makes unauthorized modifications to the iPhone OS (“jailbreaking”) on their iPhone or iPod touch.

Those “customers” understood the risks, alright. They just decided to ignore them out of impatience for features that apparently should exist - while everyone else lives without them.

I am truly against jailbreaking for two reasons:

  1. Why fix something that ain’t broken?
  2. Why abuse something that sets the bar so high?

Exactly

  • PC user: The thing is, for 90% of people, a $600 Dell does exactly what they want.
  • Mac user: That's the point. Apple doesn't make machines for the 90%.

First Week Syndrome

posted 2 years ago

Okay, so once again I am back after an unexplained absence. I like to call the reason for this “first week syndrome” - the first week of school after a long holiday break.

In this case, after four weeks, things were are little ‘interesting’…

I thought I should upload a little set-up snapshot, like all the “cool kids” are doing these days. I just rearranged it so the timing seems… right…

My super-good 13-inch MacBook (unibody pro spec) coupled to the gorgeous 24-inch LED Cinema Display; wireless keyboard and Mighty Mouse; Kartell lamp; my new WD Studio hard drive; dock; iPod.

Oh, and that new mousepad, the Japanese-y range from Smiggle…

The updated Final Cut Studio is out, kind of unanticipated, but that’s great. Final Cut Pro 7 looks even more excellent, plus all the other utilities that come along with the Studio are most likely suitably improved.

What a great graphic for it, too - wonderfully simple, with the 17-inch MacBook Pro in the background. Aesthetically very pleasing, but not afraid to show that it is a pro app.
